Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the challenges facing the empowerment of poor women in light of the
current crisis in Yemen. The study based on the secondary data collected from the Social Fund for
Development, Yemen Microfinance Network, websites, official reports and other sources related to the
research study. Our study covered the period from 1997 to 2018 and the area of study in Yemen. The
results of the study showed that there are several factors affecting the empowerment of poor women in
light of the current crisis through microfinance such as customs and traditions, high-interest rate, financial
literacy, wrong religious perceptions, demanded collaterals, lack of security, etc.
