Abstract

This paper explores the impact of the growing globalisation, digitalisation and cultural diversity on contemporary teaching methods and influences the transformation of traditionally teacher-centred approaches to more
learner-centred and more inclusive approaches. By applying a qualitative interpretive approach, the study critiques secondary data, sources of information found in books and articles in academic circles, and reports published in global circles, using thematic and comparative studies. The four main areas of focus were identified in the research. It involves Globalisation and homogenization of education, digitalisation, diversification of cultures and the changing roles of teachers. The research states an indisputable trend in the change towards more student-centred teaching strategies. That said, a more gradual change exists within the developing world in contrast to the developed world. This more gradual change can largely be attributed to the gaps in digital access, the disparity between the stated policies and the actual practices, and the lack of preparedness of teachers within the developing world. The study determines that although the changes in the culture of teaching are apparent across the globe, the impact of these changes varies across diverse contexts. Balancing the adoption of global standards along with a culturally responsive approach to teaching is important in understanding educational reform. Targeted investments in digital infrastructure, quality teacher professional development, and a culturally adequate social policy are important to bridge the gaps within the rural and underdeveloped world contexts.
