Abstract

Globalization has caused radical changes in cultural identities and power relations based on race throughout the world, both beneficial and problematic. Even though it has facilitated more exchange of cultures and economic developments, it has also exacerbated the existing disparities, especially in the aspects of race and cultural conservation. The paper discusses the impact of globalization on cultural identity with a focus on cultural hybridization and cultural imperialism. It explores how globalization has transformed the local cultures, resulting in the homogenization of practices as well as the imposition of Western values that endanger the integrity of cultures. The paper also explores the racial relations that have been influenced by globalization and how the power structure is still tipped towards past colonialism. Migration, labor exploitation and world financial systems are known to recreate racial disparities, with marginal communities being mostly influenced by these global changes. The case studies provided show how the concept of globalization has really affected the culture and race as far as trade agreements, international finance, and immigration are concerned. The paper has ended on a note that there is a need to have more inclusive policies that will tackle the racial and cultural disparities that have been worsened due to globalization. The interaction of globalization and other types of social identities should be investigated in future studies, with a focus on the intersectionality of race, gender, and class. With the modern world increasingly becoming a globalized phenomenon, the importance of cultural diversity conservation and the advancement of racial equality should be at the center of the global discourse.
