Abstract

Poverty has been a simultaneous economic phenomenon since the existence of ancient civilizations and, to this day, according to the social divisions of each country. There are many reasons for the phenomenon of poverty that different countries suffer from, especially Iraq, including poor income distribution and a decline in the government’s role in public spending on various economic sectors, as well as the security situation deteriorating as well as overpopulation and environmental degradation. All of these reasons led to an increase in the poverty rate in Iraq, which resulted in political, social, and economic effects, such as high unemployment rates, the spread of illiteracy in most regions, and increased crime. Poverty alleviation, including developing new and real economic development strategies that seek to reduce the poverty rate in Iraq.
