Abstract

This research paper explores the explore the nuanced perceptions of digital platforms to ensure political accountability in participatory governance. As more and more digital tools, such as social media, e-government websites, and e-participation solutions, are used in various political processes, they serve as a new channel for achieving higher levels of transparency, citizen participation, and communication between the government and its citizens. Although there is significant potential in using digital tools to achieve political accountability, certain challenges associated with the digital divide, information pollution, and political polarization can decrease their effectiveness, particularly among populations with relatively low levels of digital literacy and internet access. This research paper will explore the use of digital platforms in enhancing political accountability through exploring their use for increasing citizen participation and communication. By combining models of participatory governance and digital platforms, the research paper will identify opportunities to increase inclusiveness and transparency in governance. On the other hand, some of the factors that prevent full citizen participation, such as digital exclusion and information pollution via social media, are also discussed in this research paper. The future study should examine how new technologies, including artificial intelligence, can enhance the functionality of digital platforms to promote political accountability. Also, there is a need to conduct studies on the long-term impact of digital platforms on political participation and the transparency of governance across various political systems. The paper concludes by highlighting the need to consider ethical considerations in the application of digital platforms to governance, especially regarding data privacy and surveillance.
