Abstract

The use of Augmented Reality (AR) technology in primary education has received little attention. This research study
looks at how AR affects enhancement of primary education, particularly in learning science. An Interactive Learning
System (ILS) was developed and implemented which was AR-enhanced to fit into the primary curriculum science
lesson. A quasi-experimental approach was adopted where two primary schools were targeted. Each school was given
12 weeks: one school continued using traditional methods of teaching while the other employed AR tools to conduct
lessons. Data collection was done using pre and post-tests, observational checklists, and structured interviews with
teachers and students. With regard to pre and post test results, students that studied using AR tools had higher levels
of conceptual understanding, motivation and engagement than other students. Additionally, this underscores the
importance of teacher professional development and curriculum design Redesigning Curriculum Training Program in
fully taking advantage of augmented reality. This study also builds the literature on educational technologies by
showing the impact of AR tools in early-stage science teaching learning processes and serve as a reference for further
application and study in related education settings.
