Abstract

This study attempts to determine when analytical perspective on environmental science is applied to the practical green marketing spectrum where sustainable industrial technological innovation can be achieved. Concerns regarding greenwashing and the scientific absence of credibility in the majority of green marketing programs are present. While emphasizing the principles of lifecycle assessments, resource efficacy, and emission control, the environmental marketing focus of green marketing can be strengthened. This paper introduces a multidimensional framework, which has been validated by a firm-level empirical study of 1,000 firms from diverse industries, including the technology, manufacturing, and energy industries. The author uses Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) in order to analyze the effects of aforementioned scientifically supported marketing strategies on a firm's performance and innovation cons. This paper also introduces the “Integration Maturity Scale,” which allows firms to self-assess and place themselves along the continuum of sustainability change. Reporting firms using scientifically supported green marketing strategies showed remarkable increases in customer confidence (72%), operational effectiveness (18%), and market share (25%). Additionally, compliance to regulatory environmental laws appears to be a practice more often adopted by green marketing firms; 75% of green marketing firms are committed versus 98% of firms without science-based green marketing. Marked distinction is also evident regarding industry specifics—particularly highly polluting industries due to the industry-specific coordination of regulation challenges and associated cross-functional coordination disturbances. This research adds to SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by offering an empirically based model for sustainable industrial practices that is adaptable to different contexts. Future research may include validation, cross regional studies, and development of metrics for integrating environmental science into marketing as green marketing methods.
