Abstract

As businesses face new challenges in balancing profitability and sustainability, concerns about the environment have created a need for new business models. Traditional models tend to prioritize profit at the expense of environmental sustainability, leading to a gradual accumulation of damaging risks for the business. This paper examines the potential of sustainable business models to create positive environmental outcomes, support economic growth, and enhance a business's competitive positioning in the marketplace. This research uses both qualitative and quantitative methods. The primary data were collected through a survey of 150 business managers across the manufacturing, retail, and service industries. The secondary data came from sustainability reports, journals, and company case studies. The analytical frameworks for this research included percentage, correlation, and regression analyses to determine the impact of sustainable practices on businesses' economic outcomes. The research found that 72% of businesses saw a reduction in operating expenses, and 68% reported an increase in brand perception and customers' trust in the business as a result of adding sustainability to their business practices. The businesses that implemented green innovation practices also saw an annual revenue increase of 18% over the five years studied. In addition, the analysis of the data scored a high positive correlation between long-term financial outcomes (R2 = 0.64) and the business’ sustainability practices toward the environment. The highest reported barrier to implementing sustainability practices (41%) was the high operating costs and limitation of available technology. The research showed that new business models, coupled with practices that protect the environment, have positive financial outcomes both for the business and for the stakeholders who are positively impacted by the business. This research also showed that increased funding of green innovations, engagement of stakeholders, and sustainable practices in policy development have a positive impact on developing a resilient and sustainable business.
