Technology such as Augmented Reality (AR) is no longer considered a novelty, but rather an integrated part of our
daily interactions within social media platforms. This study seeks to learn about the role of AR in changing the user's
experiences in the social network spaces through spatial immersion and interaction. Its goal is to look at the ways AR
has been integrated into social media, the trends and architectures, as well as the problems associated with its
implementation. A systematic literature review conducted between 2000 and 2021 showcased the progression of AR
technologies and their application within the domains of computing and social media. The methodology advocates for
the analysis of multimodal user inputs including but not limited to location, gestures, facial movements, and other
real-time data to give customized experiences via an interaction framework driven by AR. In comparison to other
content delivery methods, AR proved to be a much more effective means of increasing user satisfaction and retention,
as well as engagement with the platform. Performance evaluation through prototype testing and benchmarking showed
marked improvements concerning user immersion and interactivity. Despite these findings, issues around privacy,
scalability, user control, and hardware remained unsolved. The study proposed new frameworks that include federated
learning architectures aimed at enhancing privacy without restricting personalization and low-performance AR
devices for further research and development. This paper helps in comprehending the role of AR in social interactions
and provides insights for further developments in the field.
