Abstract

Clean technology, often referred to as cleantech or climate tech, encompasses any process, product, or service designed to minimize negative environmental impacts. This is achieved through significant improvements in energy efficiency, sustainable resource use, or various environmental protection activities. The realm of clean technology is quite expansive, covering areas like recycling, renewable energy, information technology, green transportation, electric motors, green chemistry, lighting, grey water management, and much more. Environmental finance plays a crucial role in supporting new clean technology projects by enabling them to secure funding through the generation of carbon credits. Projects aimed at mitigating climate change are commonly known as carbon projects. The issue of global warming arises from the release of greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere, which leads to the absorption and retention of the sun’s heat, preventing it from escaping back into space and consequently raising the planet's temperature. This rise in temperature has serious repercussions, including the melting of glaciers, rising sea levels, extreme weather patterns that can lead to health issues, and disruptions in marine ecosystems. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is particularly problematic because it has a more prolonged impact on global warming compared to other GHGs like methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases. Unlike the more abundant gases in our atmosphere, such as nitrogen and oxygen, GHGs effectively trap heat radiated from the Earth's surface and gradually release it over time. In recent years, renewable energy technologies have gained significant attention due to the looming threat of global warming, dwindling fossil fuel supplies, and geopolitical factors. While Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs) have been around for quite some time, they are now receiving a strong policy push in a world increasingly constrained by carbon emissions”.
